1. Chloe’s tank top had a hole in it. And it was a pretty big one, so she was fairly sure she couldn’t just sew it and make it look ok. Besides, she had quite a few others, so she didn’t really need it. She was about to throw it away when TJ stopped her.

Turns out, if you put it around your knees and lay on your side, you could strengthen your muscles by moving your knees apart.

Therefore, Chloe’s t-shirt became a physio tool.

2. Eli ripped his jeans. He’s not sure quite how he did it, but the whole left leg had a rip right down one side. Sighing, he changed into a new pair. While changing, though, he realised that, the pair of jeans he had just ripped had been the only set to still fit him.

Since he arrived on Destiny he had lost weight, and now most of his clothes were too big. Eyeing the ripped jeans lying on his bed he had an idea.

And so denim belts were born!

3. Vanessa had a jumper that she now never had the time to wear. The jumper in question was old and worn anyway, and she thought that it could be put to better use.

Somehow, in what little downtime she had, Vanessa managed to turn her old jumper into a bag, which was then used for bring food and other supplies back to the ship from the various planets they visited.

4. When the first baby was born on Destiny, everything had to be improvised. They needed clothing and bedding and food. What no one had thought of, however, was diapers. How were they supposed to get them out here?

Matt said, when he was a child, his mother had reusable ones made of cloth, and then proceeded to pull out one of his woollen hats. He cut two holes in the top, turned it upside down and put it on the baby. Hey presto, a fabric diaper.

To hold it up and in place, they used one of Eli’s new belts!

5. Life on board Destiny was never dull, and little surprises were always lurking around the corner. After one particular mission, when the ship was back in FTL, Chloe and TJ realised they had some stow aways.

Tiny little, furry creatures had come on board, probably hidden in amongst the supplies, and had made themselves at home. And, since they couldn’t go back to the planet to drop them off, Young agreed that they could be kept on board. Chloe immediately scooped one up and named it George, and others were beginning to do the same.

Rush shook his head and headed back to his own room, only to discover one of the creatures asleep in a shoe at the bottom of his bed. He thought about waking it but found that he liked the little thing after all.

And so Rush’s shoe became a bed!
