Five times Vala was whinier than usual, but Sam kissed her anyway

Five times Vala was whinier than usual, but Sam kissed her anyway

1 - "Samantha," Vala said, voice that special timbre of pleading that she insisted was not whining, "why must Daniel be so vexing?"

Sam pushed aside her papers with a sigh - clearly she wouldn't be getting anymore work done in the near future. "What have you done to 'vex' him?" she asked.

Vala threw herself into onto the stool next to Sam and pulled her hand to her chest, the very picture of the mortally wounded. "Me? I offer him fun and distraction and he scowls and growls at me like a bear."

"Maybe he has a good reason to keep you at arm's length," Sam said, keeping her voice light even as her heart pounded in his chest.

"Whatever reason could that be?" Vala asked, the confusion in her voice the most honest thing about her.

"Loyalty to me," Sam said.

Vala's confusion deepened the lines around her eyes. "Loyalty to..." Her face smoothed as understanding kicked in. "Oh?" she said, intrigued and inviting. "And here I thought you meant his obvious love for General O'Neill."

"That too," Sam agreed, meeting Vala halfway over the table in the first of many kisses.

2 - "But why can't I take just a small trinket?" Vala pouted as she was 'escorted' back to the gate by Sam. "Nothing they'd miss too quickly. They'd never know it was us. Me," she amended off of Sam's reproachful look.

"Vala, I thought we were past this," Sam said, holding onto her patience by a thread. "We can't risk offending people just so you can have a souvenir."

"He was a rude, arrogant jerk," Vala said, "And I didn't like the way he looked at you."

Sam smiled, understanding blossoming, "Vala, are you jealous?"

"What?" Vala scowled. "Don't be ridiculous darling."

"Good, because you have nothing to worry about," and Sam leaned in to seal her promise with a kiss.

3 - "But Samantha, I haven't seen you properly for days," Vala insisted. She had managed to corner Sam in the small supply closet tucked away in one corner of her lab and was attempting to get a hand under her shirt.

"Vala, no," Sam said, hand sneaking out stop Vala's explorations. "We agreed - not on the Mountain..."

"...or off world," Vala finished, pulling back and rolling her eyes at the rules. "But that's the only places we are lately. Not even torturing Daniel is keeping me distracted from my frustrations."

Sam flushed guiltily. It was true that she hadn't seen topside of her own planet in nearly a week. "I'm sorry," she said, relenting slightly to kiss Vala, "You're right. Let's go home now."

"Yeah?" Vala asked, smiling and sliding an arm around Sam.

"Yeah." Sam said, sneaking in another kiss to tide them over until they could make it back to her place.

4 - "I wanted my birthday spankings," Vala whined over the sound of both their cell phones ringing.

Delivering a swift smack to one unfortunately still clad buttock before picking up the phone, Sam promised, "Oh, don't worry. You'll get them."

"Do that again Samantha, dear, and we'll never make it to the Mountain."

5 - "I'm not sure coming here was such a great idea," Vala admitted once she and Sam were behind the locked doors of Sam's office on Atlantis.

Sam couldn't hide her hurt when she asked, "Why?"

"Daniel's wagging his tail like a puppy with a bone just from being here, Teal'c has found two new best friends, and Cam and Sheppard have bonded so hard and fast that I believe your Dr. McKay is going to pop a blood vessel."

Sam laughed at the description. For all Rodney had grown and changed since the first time she'd met him, sharing his toys was still not his strong suit. "And that's a bad thing?"

"Well, I'm bored," Vala said, avoiding Sam's gaze in a way that was supposed to be coy, but Sam knew indicated nerves, "what is there for me to do her?"

Sam crossed came around her desk and took Vala's face in her hands for a slow, soft kiss. "Me."
