pt.1 [PG13]
Jack had taught him to fight dirty if he had to.
2. Daniel turned out his pockets in frustration. He must have left his key at the base, along with his mobile. He thumped his head against his apartment door and sighed heavily. Footsteps started coming towards him, and he looked up to see his neighbour pause at her door. "Are you all right?" she asked, concerned.
Daniel smiled, embarassed. "Yea, I just... I left my key at work. Do you have a bobby pin or two that I could borrow?" She nodded and quickly looked through her purse. She withdrew two pins and handed them to him, eyeing him curiously.
"Do you want me to call maintenence?" she asked. "I can call real quick, they'll be here right away." Daniel waved away her concern.
"No, no, don't worry about it. I can get in," Daniel said. "Thank you." She gave him a last, disapproving glance before entering her own apartment. Daniel bent on one knee and inserted the pins into his lock. A few precise wiggles and the lock popped open. He bit down on a smile of accomplishment. And Jack said he wouldn't be able to do it in under five minutes.
3. Daniel twisted his wrists, testing the bonds as carefully as he could without scraping skin away. The man holding him hostage was dismanteling a pistol at the table in front of him. Every now and again he would look up to see if Daniel was still sitting there, as if the linguist would somehow just up and leave despite being tied to the chair. Well... if he could get his hands free the man might have something to worry about.
An hour of careful twisting and manuvering later, Daniel was rewarded when the man got up to leave the hut for a bathroom break. As soon as the door shut behind him, Daniel was up out of the chair and to the table. The pistol was still only part-way assembled. Daniel set his bottom lip between his teeth and quickly finished piecing the gun back together. He was sliding the last part into place when the door opened behind him. He whirled, held the gun at the man's head, and heard Jack's voice call to him as he led the rescue team.
Jack had walked him through that excercise until Daniel could do it backwards and in his sleep. Daniel had a healthy and well-honed respect for his Baretta.

pt 2. [PG13]
He jerked his head up as the door to his cell creaked open with a defeaning noise. Two guards entered the cell, dragging Jack between them. They let him fall to the floor, still bound and gagged, and left without a word. Daniel held his breath as he stared at Jack. In the dim light, he couldn't tell if the man was breathing. Daniel struggled onto his knees and shuffled towards Jack. He made it almost there before his legs gave out and he slipped forward, landing hard on one of his shoulders with a muffled grunt. He had landed not where he wanted to be. His eyes were staring at Jack's hands, and he didn't have the strength to move any more.
And then, Jack's hands began to move. To form signals. Daniel watched in relief as they quickly let him know Jack was fine, Sam had busted out, and Teal'c was on his way.
5. "Jack?" Daniel followed the muffled thuds he was hearing through the house until he reached Jack's bedroom door. He cautiously pushed the door open and saw Jack standing over his bed, a pillow in his hand. The lights were off in the room, and as Daniel pushed the door further open, a swath of light fell over Jack, painting the planes of his bare chest into stark blacks and whites of shadow and light. "Jack?" Daniel repeated softly.
Jack whirled on him, chucking into a far corner of the room. Daniel watched it fall with worry, and then turned his gaze back to Jack who was striding towards him. Daniel grit his teeth as Jack stepped right into his personal space, and with a firm hand, pressed him against the wall and held him there.
"Don't ever, do anything like that again, do you understand me?" Jack growled. Daniel frowned, confused.
"Jack?"
"When I say get out, that means get out. It doesn't mean try to help every grandmother and child you see along the way. They were trying to kill you, Daniel!" Jack hissed. Daniel scowled.
"I wasn't going to let them hurt the villagers on my account, Jack! You of all people should know that," Daniel snapped.
"Yes, but you didn't have to jump in front of a staff blast to help them!" Jack's hand pressed harder against his chest. Daniel winced as the bandages pulled across his skin. Jack's anger diminished, as if he could tell by the change in Daniel's breathing what he was feeling. Jack's hand curled up on Daniel's chest, and his other hand reached up to cup Daniel's jaw. Daniel glanced at him, startled, and almost knocked his head against the wall when Jack's lips closed over his.
Daniel all but melted against Jack, leaning forward and pressing them from the wall. Jack walked them backwards to the bed, mouth slipping and sliding deliciously over Daniel's. Jack drew back just enough to lower Daniel onto the bed and then sink down on top of him. Daniel grunted as his injury was strained, and grabbed one of Jack's arms just over the wrist. He twisted gently, eliciting a surprised noise from Jack, and flipped them on the bed. Jack landed on his back, staring up at Daniel in amused betrayal.
"I taught you that move," Jack said breathlessly. Daniel grinned. He lowered himself between Jack's legs, pressing their hips together as he propped himself up with his good arm.
"And I'm very glad you did," Daniel said quietly. Jack smiled warmly and cupped the linguist's face between his hands. Daniel lowered himself further and kissed Jack. Nearly all of Jack's lessons were practical, and the ones centered on getting out of holds would prove most entertaining...

I particularly love the nonchalant way Daniel enters the building after "fighting dirty" *g*

Years later, Jack's Special Ops-trained nose sniffed Daniel's incompetence in hand-to-hand combat and proceeded to address this problem. Daniel had screamed and shouted his way down to the gym, where Jack wasted no time showing him how he could take down almost anyone, even those larger than him, even an army of Tealcs.
So now he could beat those Big Marine Bullies at their own game and then insult them fluently afterwards.
2. Early on in his archeologist life, Daniel learnt to keep his temper in check. Even when he was stumped on a translation or a puzzle, seventy-seven hours in, when the last drip of coffee consumed, when the last inch of bread had gone moldy. Even if he wanted to take out a rubber mallet and pound his translation into submission. Because, he had reminded himself, these are rare artefacts.
And Jack, cunning bastard that he was, found out that there *was* definitely a way to get Daniel all the way through weapons qualifications.
So now whenever he found an Everest standing between him and words that made no sense (but should!), he simply traced his way down to the shooting range and shoot perfect shots.
3. Oh and that shooting thing, helped keep the Archeology Department ahead in annual SGC Inter-Department Games. Which meant scoring the grand prize of a 4-day tax-payer-paid jaunt to the Stargate Destination of their choice. This pleased Daniel to no end, and bothered Jack at the same time (made Daniel feel like he's nailed the *Jack*pot, pun very much intended).
4. Daniel prided himself to be an excellent pupil. So much so that he could expertly apply stealth and deception to sneak up on one unsuspecting Colonel. Payback for all the times (past, present, and definitely future) Jack stepped loudly into Daniel's office, broke his train of thought and made him lose his paragraph.
5. Lying in his own vomit and blood in a dungeon millions of light years away from earth, Daniel remembered what Jack taught him one starry night, on that planet with the Donut moon. It was a long tale of morality, hazy now in his tired brain. But he remembered enough to make him endure, just so he could see Jack one more time.
"Just like Homer and his donut never to be parted," Jack had said, "Nobody gets left behind."

Loved Daniel working out his frustration at the firing range - kudos to Jack for that idea. Yay for Simpson's reference! *urges Jack to hurry, omg, to Daniel's rescue*

At first I didn't know whether it is okay to write Daniel as violent and insulting to other people (even when they're bullies), but I think Daniel can also be petty once in a while :) Especially when he's up to his eyeballs with work. Good stress relief I think. That and shooting things. Jack is just so in tune with Daniel *wink*
And for the last one, I really think that Jack's already outside, shooting the door open already :)

Although I'm sure that the rest of the geeks are no slouches, there's a part of me that just loves to see King Geek in action.

I like to think it runs along the line of, "'S dat you, Homer?"
And I think Jack'll approve *fingers crossed*
