But he's got even more incentive to stay, so I think John would have his work cut out for him.

playing with cool toysinitializing newly discovered Ancient technology orgetting the crap kicked out of himtraining with Teyla and Ronon orplaying with Rodneyboosting team morale would be awesome. But Walter gets a strange look in his eye when John jokingly suggests a transfer. Besides, Lorne might feel unappreciated if John got someone else to do the paperwork.2. Sgt. Siler. The scientists on Atlantis have been getting lots of practical training to go with their theoretical degrees, but it'd be nice to have someone who has experience with real-world repairs. Especially when the real world includes unknown contraptions invented by some seriously strange alien ingenuity. And someone who can play through pain would be a real bonus.
3. Teal'c. He and Teyla could bond over bantos rods and kel'no'reem. He and Ronon could engage in contests to see who could go the longest without talking. John and Rodney could try to talk him into taking the role of John Hurt during their reenactment of Alien for the next talent show.
On second thought, that last one might land them in the infirmary.
4. General O'Neill. There are moments, sometimes fleeting, sometimes lasting a small eternity, when he'd give anything in the known universe to not be responsible for the lives and safety of those sheltered in Atlantis. More often, it would just be nice to have someone in a leadership role with a strong expression of the gene to understand the unique pressure of being John Sheppard. In a non-talking, totally manly sort of way, of course.
5. Daniel, partially because a formerly ascended linguistic expert would be enormously helpful to the expedition. But mostly so he could watch Rodney twitch whenever John introduces them as Dr. Rodney McKay, PhD, PhD and Dr. Daniel Jackson, PhD, PhD, PhD. But he has a lot of respect for General O'Neill, and John is a firm believer that guys don't steal another guy's scientist. It's in the bro code. Besides, he has other ways to make Rodney twitch.

And Siler sure can play through the pain. It's his super power.
Making Rodney twitch is a very, very good thing, but yes, there are other ways. Don't break the bro code. LOL

And not because it’d be so much easier to be involved with the guy if they were in the same galaxy. Well, not just because of that. It’s more that, even with Lorne and Teldy to up the number of officers a bit, John misses having someone else on his level who understands the concept of sacrifice for the greater good and that sometimes the best solution really is to shoot it. It’s why he liked having Carter around, even if it was weird to have a CO who was in the same galaxy again.
Also, Cam gets this flushed, over-excited look every time he gets to fly something dangerous, and then he’ll do anything in bed, trying to come down from it. John doesn’t appreciate only getting to hear about his adventures – in flying, not in bed – from too far away to take advantage of it.
2. Carolyn Lam:
He likes Keller, he really does, and she’s very good at her job, as well as being a lot less likely to start wringing her hands in anxiety than Carson was. He doesn’t even resent her for taking so much of Rodney’s time, so that John feels even further away from Cam than he usually does.
It’s just that being treated by Keller always reminds him of the joke about policemen starting to look like children, and he’s not ready to start feeling that old. Also, that he feels badly every time he has to over-ride her opinion, because he knows she won’t, but she *looks like* she’ll start crying as soon as he’s gone.
Lam, the few times he needed treating on Earth, used to look at him like she’d have no problem putting him in restraints if he tried to cross her. It made John feel better.
3. Sergeant Cox:
Sergeant Cox doesn’t even work for the SGC any more, but when she did, she was in charge of the recall of Atlantis personnel when they got let back into the city after rescuing O’Neill and Woolsey. She had an office roughly the sixe of a small broom closet, a desk with more files than it seemed possible for that space to hold, and one phone, and she’d gotten back eighty per cent of their people in a week, then sent John the neatest, most succinct summary of all the details that he’d ever seen.
He’s never going to say this to Lorne, who does an amazing job of keeping the place organised, even if he does refuse every one of John’s joking orders that he take over John’s half of the paperwork as well, but he’d give a lot to have Cox in the city as well. He’s pretty sure she could organise the Wraith right out of existence.
4. Dr Kavanagh:
Sure, he’s never going to be John’s favourite person – actually, he’s never going to be anyone’s favourite person – and he’s made it perfectly clear that the last place in the universe he wants to be is Atlantis, but. He was the only person who managed to put his personal feelings aside and think about the safety of the *city* when John’s team were trapped in the wormhole, that first year. Sure, John’s grateful Elizabeth went ahead with saving them anyway, but he’d been kind of terrified to read the reports and discover that the safety of the city came down to Elizabeth preferring to listen to Simpson than Kavanagh.
Plus, he was one of John’s people, for a while, and John’s never been very good at letting go.
5. Vala:
He’s not really sure why. The last thing Atlantis needs is someone else with no morals about stealing something they need – Rodney trying to steal a ZPM from a planet of children isn’t even close to the worst that’s happened – and he thinks Cam would probably kill him if he tried. He knows Ronon would, after Vala tried to jump him three different times (that John knows of) while SG1 were in Atlantis.
It’s just that John’s always had a serious level of admiration for tough women who’ve survived, and if he wants the best people in Atlantis, which he does, he wants people like Vala.

Thanks - I always imagine that John actually doesn't think Kavanagh's that bad, he's just smart enough to realize that he spends enough time with Rodney and Elizabeth that saying this would be a bad idea.

Absolutely. Plus, it'd give Lorne more time for the daring rescues :o)

Which is the sort of thing that actually gets screen time, so then we'd actually get to see Lorne! Excellent!

LOL at Keller looking like she's about to cry! Ditto at Vala jumping Ronon. (because we all know it would be inevitable.)

John's all about saving his city, even if he does have to listen to annoying people to do it.

All of these are fantastic, I especially like Carolyn and Vala. The idea of Vala hitting on Ronon makes me chuckle. Kavanagh is very creative and I want Sgt. Cox at my job.

I want Sgt. Cox at my job
Sadly, I think if anyone's going to be Sgt Cox at my job, it's going to have to be me, and I'm just not that well organised!

2. On his second year in Atlantis, John wonders what it’d be like to have someone from the IOA in charge. Not that he’d ever let them take away Elizabeth, but he thinks that if someone like Woolsey were at the helm—someone to see what it was like out on the frontier and send word back to his cronies—John’s life would become a whole lot simpler. See the job; do the job.
His fifth year becomes the very definition of ironic, something John doesn’t find amusing at all. It isn’t simple, either.
3. Rodney spends so much time talking about Samantha Carter that John starts wishing she would visit, just so he can be there when she tells him to shut up. Then she is and she does and it’s every bit as awesome as he knew it would be. When it’s time for her to leave, he tells her to come back again soon and she knows exactly what he means by it.
4. John asks Walter to come to Atlantis twice a year. Walter always says no, but John thinks that’s probably Landry speaking, so he keeps asking. He even tells him he’d get his paperwork in on time. Walter smiles in a way that says he knows John’s well intentioned, but a complete liar and John leaves him alone for another six months.
5. John writes a letter to General O’Neill every week for the first year, asking him to take over the military leadership of Atlantis. His job is supposed to be resident gene carrier, not explorer extraordinaire, and he’d like to get back to it. Not that he doesn’t like the exploring, or his teammates. Not that he doesn’t have some mistakes to rectify.
When O’Neill finally does get to Atlantis and John is sent back to Earth, he deletes those files and starts writing daily letters to Landry. Atlantis is his city after all. He belongs there.

And #5 is a great capper. That whole John-on-Earth interlude was just so very, very wrong.

2) He’d consider taking Bernard even if it seems like all he can do is announce which chevron is locked. After talking with him once, John is pretty sure the guy can out-geek Rodney when it comes to comics, tv and nerdy movies. There’s a good potential that Rodney might even lose a few arguments. Rumors hint that Jackson would pay to get rid of the guy, and obviously there’s a story behind that, but John doesn’t care. The ‘recliner of rage’ the guy kept mentioning would have to stay on Earth tho.
3) He’d love to be able to bring Major Davis to Atlantis. The guy can get things done whether it’s scrounging supplies, organizing an evac or negotiating with aliens. John is pretty sure General O’Neill won’t let him go.
4) There’s a scientist named Coombs that might make a good addition to the team. John doesn’t know much about him either, but he listened to the man give one of his co-workers lip and guy can snark with the best of them. He’s pretty sure Coombs would irritate the hell out of McKay.
5) Even tho she’s technically no longer part of the SGC, John would love to steal the head lunch lady. She can make institutional cans of over-processed food taste like manna from heaven. General Hammond stole her first and took her with him when he left for DC. When he passed away, Col. Caldwell inherited her and now she works on the Daedalus. He thinks it’s just talk about the Colonel being ‘more-than-friends’ with her, but when he mentioned her to Lorne, the marines made up a list of men who’d be willing to ‘pay court’ to the lady if she’d take over the Atlantis cafeteria. Hell, he’d be willing to shave his chest, oil up and wear a thong while giving her a pedicure if she’d take the job.
