1. He has a 19 year-old-daughter living in Knoxville, TN.

Elsie Jones never told him she was pregnant. She told her parents that she’d been raped coming home from school. If they known their granddaughter had been conceived consensually in the backseat of Cameron’s momma’s car, she’s sure her daddy would have shot him.

She had options, of course, but her parents did what was done in their day and sent her to an aunt in Tennessee immediately after graduation.

Cameron went off and joined the Air Force and was at basic training when his baby was born. Elsie wanted to include his name on the birth certificate, but she didn’t dare.

Carolina Michelle Jones looks just like her daddy. Elsie has almost sent letters to Cameron hundreds of time, especially after she caught him on TV in his flight suit. She’s a grown woman, now, and not afraid of her parents, but she still hasn’t done it.

Carolina is tall, like her daddy, and she has a basketball scholarship to play for the Lady Vols. Elsie wonders if Cameron watches the women’s teams like he used to watch the men’s. She hopes so.

2. He’s the reason his father survived the amputation of his legs.

Cameron’s never seen the face of his child, so he doesn’t know how it feels to watch a smile from the little person you’ve created. Let alone, to get that smile when you feel like half a man with no reason to live.

3. His father wanted him to resign his commission, even as he talked him out of it.

It had nothing to do with the convoy accident. There was nothing he could say or do about it, nothing that would undo it.

He wanted Cameron to become a civilian pilot because civilian planes rarely crash, are rarely in the crosshairs of anti-aircraft guns, and civilian pilots come home to their families with far more frequency.

It would have been incredibly hypocritical to say any of that, and it wasn’t what Cameron was torn up about, anyway. So, he said nothing about it, and just said what his son needed to hear.

4.He could have lived with the paralysis.

Cameron doesn’t think he could have handled losing his mobility for any longer than it took get 95 percent of it back in physical therapy.

He had a plan, too, involving an overdose of his pain meds. And he thinks he would have used it.

He never got to find out for sure, but Cameron Mitchell will never go out like that.

5.He can do this by himself.

It’s true that Teal’c, Carter, and Jackson have been at it a lot longer. He’s only really in charge somewhere on the paperwork, and has none of the authority or experience to order any one of them to do anything.

But, he’s gradually figuring out what he’s supposed to do to keep them all alive and Earth free. The Ori aren’t the Goa’uld, and it’s a whole new ball game.

He’s learning, as fast as he can, because he has no other choice.

Eventually, he’s going to lose somebody, maybe two, maybe all of them, and he’s got to keep going, because someone needs to re-form SG-1 again and keep up the fight.

I admit it: this is the first time I sneaked a peek at a response before the unveiling and couldn't help reading the whole thing. How could I not keep going, after a first line like that? I've had to make a new rule for myself, which is not even to do a glance-through now and then to make sure there aren't any immediately evident problems. Because you grabbed me with that first line and wouldn't let go. *g* Great list! Thank you for writing it.

Thank you! Coming for such an amazing author, that's a huge compliment. :)

That--yeah. You rock, Mitchell. I can totally relate to him on that score (well, except that I don't have the fate of a whole universe hanging on my shoulders. That helps a little.)

These are great, and especially #4 and 5 just grabbed me by the throat.

I love 1 and 5. I think he'd want to know about his daughter, even though then he'd have to regret all the time he had missed. And it's so true that the Ori are NOT the Goa'uld, and Cam has as much knowledge and experience as anyone else when it comes to fighting them.

1. He looks good in a leather collar.
2. He looks good in leather pants.
3. He looks good in no pants.
4. He looks good in tight jeans.
5. He looks good in sweaty workout clothes.

Standing, squatting. Bending over; be still my heart.

And Daniel’s pretty sure he isn’t the only one who thinks so.

That is such a fun concept for responding to this prompt (which was mine, so extra thanks *g*), and the items on the list are inarguable. :-)

Yippee! :-)

Oh, yes, totally inarguable. And Daniel's name in the final sentence could be replaced with that of any member of the SG-1.

In summation: Cam = HOT.

He calls Jack up and teases him about it. "You should have seen the outfit Cam wore when we went out for drinks tonight..."

1: He admires SG-1, he knows that. Spent a long and hard recovery with the single goal; to get to join SG-1. And he admires none of them more than Colonel - well, General - O'Neill.

But deep down, all the way down where he never goes, he also hates O'Neill.

Hates him for being who he is, for being a success, when Cameron has spent so much time being less than perfect. Hates him for having had - for 8 years - what Cameron knew he wanted from the moment he heard about it.

Most of all, though; Cameron hates him because there's a light in Daniel's eyes when he talks about O'Neill, and Cameron wants to be the only one who makes Daniel feel like that.

2: All of SG-1 has done amazing things. Jackson's been ascended for a year - although Cameron won't even pretend he understands what that means. Carter's been host to a Tok'ra. Teal'c has his own set of near-superpowers. O'Neill, more than all of them, what with Ancient genes and downloading the library of the Ancients not once, but twice.

Cameron knows he wishes he had special powers beyond just common stubbornness, because he's starting to feel like a normal human who's got to join the Justice League.

What he doesn't know - yet - is that in another year or so, they're going to find remnants of the Furlings, and they hold the key to Cameron's own superpower.

Then again; it's probably just as well. Do you really want to know you're a latent telepath?

3: Somewhere in Germany, there's a beautiful little girl with blond hair and blue eyes. Her mother still can't believe the young American pilot trusted her, when she said she was on the pill.

The girl is called Anna, but her mother never wanted to know Cameron's surname.

4: Cameron loves going through the gate. I'ts a rush; the craziest adventure anyone could ever imagine. But all the way at the back of his mind, crazy though going through the gate is... he misses the thrill of flying the X-302.

The acceleration that shoves him back into his seat - even with the intertial dampeners - as it kicks off down the runway. The thrill of pushing through the last visible veil of atmosphere to see unending black, sparkling space. The rush of having all that power, all that speed, humming at his fingertips.

But he'll tell you that he doesn't miss flying.

5: Vala is annoying and possibly psychotic. She's also a manipulative bitch, who cares more about her own safety than... well, mostly she only cares about her own safety and profit. And she's so very obviously... well, he doesn't know if Vala is even capable of bing in love as he defines it, but she's definitely out to have serial sex with Daniel.

Somehow, it doesn't help that she's smart and space-wise and quite beautiful.

Cameron is very good at keeping secrets from himself. That's why he figures that when he admires Vala's figure, it's just common lust. When he feels uncomfortable when Vala flirts with Daniel, it's because he worries about what it'll mean for his team. When he takes the time to actually talk to Vala, it's because he's a good leader and it's what's good for the team.

Cameron is so good at keeping secrets from himself that even the lies he tells himself are true.

As it is... it may take him a few years to run out of his true lies and face the secret he's been keeping from himself since the first time he laid eyes on Vala.

One day, he's going to marry her.

These are great. I love the things Mitchell hides from himself and sublimates in these. Especially that he misses flying -- it's amazing and yet totally believable to think that he would really miss it that much and not believe, himself, that he does. And #2 cracked me up -- both the line he's starting to feel like a normal human who's got to join the Justice League and the revelation at the end. Cool! :-)

Thank you. I'm guessing flying a plane is a little like reading books for me. Sure, you can give it up if something more interesting comes along - but you're never going to stop missing it.

And #2 pretty much wrote itself. SG-1's become a pretty heady group over the years... but of course Cam needs his own superpower - and to realize that *having* a superpower isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I have to admit that #5 surprised me. I was actually going to write him in love with either Daniel or Sam... but Vala wanted attention. And what Vala wants, Vala gets... ;-)

Oh, terrific! Wanting to light up Daniel, missing flying, future Furling encounters.

Marrying Vala!

:-D Great job!
