They smoked pot with Michael and Jenny. “When in Rome,” Jack said, causing Daniel to blink, because that was usually his line. Sam had only done it once before, and thrown up, but that could have been the cheap wine. This time went much more smoothly for her, although the giggles were unstoppable and she would have killed for some chocolate. It was total nostalgia for Jack, nothing new for Daniel, and Junior loved it. Teal’c, mellow and buzzed, actually felt at one with his symbiote.

Monday nights, Jack made sure they were near a TV, and they watched Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In. (Jack had a not-so-secret thing for Goldie Hawn.)

They soon knew all the words to the number one song in the country, and frequently sang along when it came on the radio. “In the year 2525, if man is still alive….)

They missed the internet.

Three of them thought a lot about their parents; all alive, all healthy, all out there at the end of a telephone wire. All absolutely off-limits.

Aww! And then Aww, again, in a sad way. I love the mix of SG-1ish stuff, mundane stuff, and then you go right for the gut.

I imagine they kept busy enough (or high enough) that it wasn't too sweetly painful to think of what they weren't allowed to reach out and touch. Glad you enjoyed!

I'm so glad! :-)

My favorite part is the (accidental) Goldie Hawn bit. I picked out Laugh-In from a chart of 1969 prime time shows and only then realized the Stargate connection! ;-)

Ha! I didn't get the connection - glad you spelled it out.

I like your list.

I hate feeling stupid--what is the Goldie Hawn bit? The fact that she and Kurt Russell (the "other" O'Neill) have a relationship? Please enlighten me--thanks!

And a good 5 things, thanks, though I can't quite see Jack starting them on pot when they need to keep their wits about them if they are ever to get back to their own time. Still, it's amusing.

Yes, it's totally a reference to Kurt Russell. I've done this sort of thing in other Five Thingses: Jack thinking Alan Shore (James Spader) on Boston Legal was cute and Daniel not getting that at all; Jack liking Teri Hatcher on Desperate Housewives (who was on MacGyver and also dated RDA), etc.

Oh, they only smoked pot the one time. Sam had only done it once before, and thrown up, but that could have been the cheap wine. This time went much more smoothly for her. I'll assume they weren't toking behind Jack's back after that!

Thanks for commenting!

I'd have gotten the Teri Hatcher reference, as I'm a big fan of RDA and Jack and MacGyver, enough to know she was on the show and RDA used to date her.

But thanks for making this clear to me--and I even guessed it, I just wasn't at all sure.

I loved the song reference, too. That was "my time" as I graduated from high school in 1969, so I felt for Jack when he said to Michael "Trust me, this is a great time" only to hear Michael had been drafted. A great time in some ways, terrible in others.

I still have the 45 of that song. :-) I was class of '72, and I think my class prety much escaped the draft. Or at least never made it overseas.

My class, and those before me, did not escape. We were a small school--my class, with 60 kids, was the largest ever (baby boomers). Two boys I'd known well, a year and two years older than I, were killed in Viet Nam. Others served and came back mentally harmed.

Still, that was also the moon shot era, a great accomplishment, so it was the best of times, the worst of times.

I couldn't possibly be that old! ;-)

I can't believe how long it took me to make the Goldie connection. I was trying to come up with a Teal'c reaction to the show, or drag in Henry Gibson somehow when it suddenly hit me! LOL

I think the idea for #5 probably came from Quantum Leap. I remember Sam Beckett making that phone call....

Junior will be craving hard drugs before long, because that's the way it works, you know. ;-)

Thanks for linking to this at Redial!

Love the different reactions to smoking pot. Especially Teal'c's!

And, of course, OW with that last one.

It was your mention of authentic era music in a comment that made me think of "2525" and remember this post! :-)

Thanks very much!

I won't take credit for that last one - I got the idea from Quantum Leap. *g*
