Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the reply to your prompt. I do believe I've become addicted to reading the replies here, and I expect I shall be writing more of my own! Yay! :-D
Yeah, I kinda thought Daniel was always the type of person to appreciate the little things. In "The First Ones" when he's showing Chaka that the powerbar thing is good to eat, and he closes his eyes and goes all "mmmmmm"y? I tend to think that's his natural response to a lot of things, but he's learned to keep that hidden as, early on in life, he learned about "propriety" and "giving other people perhaps the wrong idea". Hehee. So anyway, yeah, I just thought he'd be the type of person to appreciate the carpet. :-)
Writing this, it was a weird combination of "okay, this is the Daniel we're all familiar with (e.g. the coffee / little things)" and "hmm, so yeah, in that ep he just turned into someone really, really different!" It was kinda hard to write about Daniel using people.. and the only thing that kept me from going "aiieeee" too much was the fact that it wasn't really him.
Kinda makes you think, if I had a hard time with it, what must Daniel have thought when he woke up and realized what he'd done!
